Hailey's Room

So in all this excitement of transforming Keelyn's bedroom into a "big girl room" for her birthday, I thought I'd share what I did for Hailey's birthday when she turned two. Some of the things in her room didn't change...lots of the pictures just got moved around a bit, though a few new things were added.

Here's what you see when you walk in her door.

This is the wall to the left, and then we'll go around. Isn't this fun?
I made her headboard a little more recently, when we raised her bed off the floor. I used an old one we got on Craig's List for $5, covered it in batting, tulle, and bright green buttons. It's very cute and was so cheap and simple!

The wall frame has pictures of her as a newborn. Those were shot when she was 5 days old...which would have been 38 weeks gestation...when I was supposed to have a maternity shoot. She changed our plans, and in my opinion, was much more beautiful on the outside, than filling up my belly for the camera.
The toy box is actually a corner piece that can stand up, but we use it sideways. On top are pictures of her with Andrew and with me. That toy box, along with all of the other furniture in her room, was in my house growing up, split between my brother and I. I repainted it all for her birthday so that it would match her room, and we moved the furniture she had into Keelyn's room because it matched the crib, and I was pregnant at the time.

Okay, now to the right a bit. Down at the end of her bed is her favorite corner of the room. Her rocking chair sits in front of a little nightstand, and she likes to sit there and read, or play with dolls, or "hide."
Target has great little girl's room stuff, and I found her quilt there, along with matching drawer pulls that I added to the dressers.
As you can see here, she's added her own flair since turning two. There are all kinds of knick-knacks on her dresser, some homemade, some acquired. And on the back of her door, you can see a nativity scene made of stickers to "remind her that Jesus is there when she sleeps," a picture of us with her dance teacher at her recital last year, a sticker chart for good behavior, and a fairy she made with a computer game. All of these are "special" to her. And on the wall, a picture she made with my mom out of foam and glue and glitter, which she adores.
This is the view out her corner window. It really looks across the neighbor's yard, but she loves it because you can see the marshy land beyond the yard. We can often see deer walking around back there, but most importantly, that's where Ty The Turtle (a rescue we have made more than once) and "the fairies" live. It's magical out there in those trees.
In my opinion, Hailey has the perfect little girl room. Or, I guess I should say BIG girl. It's bright, colorful, and just makes you feel happy when you walk in. And most importantly, she loves it, and it is her own space to share or be quiet in as she wants.
Pictures of Keelyn's room to come in a few weeks...I have some painting to do between now and then!
